In case I didn't have enough to do last fall I started to run a meetup group for moms in the city that I live in. Every month one of the meetups that some of the moms get together for is a book club. We started the book club back in November and I have been had fun reading and finding out about new books and authors that I have not heard of before. Plus it makes sure that I do procrastinate and makes sure I find the time for one thing, every month that is a priority just for me.
A few months back one of the mothers had suggested the book Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner. I has never heard of this author before or the book, or so I thought. When I started to look through other books that she has written I had seen the movie that was based on one of her other novels In Her Shoes. I thought the movie was decent so I hoped that this book would be as well. I did read some reviews on it that did say there are the stereotypical characters and it was predictable. This is what became a worry for me, as I did not want to read a book based on different stereotypes and predictability. Talk about a boring book if it was!
I am happy to say that I was pleased that I read the book and I personally think any women that has either has lost a job, had a partner who lost their job, had a child, lost a child, gotten married, contemplated divorce, gotten divorced or just had a mother in law from hell would benefit from this story. Reality is almost (if not all) women can relate to this story in one way or another. It also reminds us of house truly the grass on the other side is not always greener and that looks can be deceiving.
Based on 4 different women who came from very different lives and how one way on another fate brought them together, or fate as I see it. Through the story you'll have your share of laughs and you may even shed a tear like I did. Although, I am a sap and seem to cry easily. ;-) Sure it had some very stereotypical characters, but nothing that takes away from the book. If anything it enhances it!
If your looking for an easy read and a book that is easy to put down and pick up again with the everyday chaos of daily life then you must check out this book!
