With some help from her mom, Brandi, Makenzie’s first children’s book, “Mighty Mito Superhero,” was born and the preteen self-published it via Amazon’s CreateSpace, making Gavin’s heroic story available to families around the world.
On
a mission to save her little brother and others suffering from Mito,
Makenzie is a little girl with BIG dreams. She wants the whole world to
know what Mito is and the kinds of incredible superheroes kids with Mito
are. She believes one day doctors will find a cure – and she’s already
well on her way to realizing her goal of raising $1 million! Between
sales from her self-published book and donations from others whom Gavin’s story has touched, Makenzie has raised nearly $40,000 for the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF), and counting….
I have to admit this was the first time I have ever heard of Mitochondrial disease and the pain it causes for the individuals affected and their family. I was lucky enough to be introduced to the book “Mighty Mito Superhero" and I hope you take the time to buy the book and support Makenzie with her mission to save her little brother and others suffering from Mito. I am amazed at what this talented girl has done already for her cause and amazed how brave her little brother is.
After reading the book I agree fully that The Mighty Gavin is without a doubt a hero at 6 years of age! Gavin goes through so much on a daily basis that many adults, myself included, have no idea at all. It really puts things into perspective when one complains about a headache and yet Gavin is unable to have a painless nights sleep, but he still manages to find the time to smile. Gavin and Makenzie are true inspirations to us all.
